Witnesses at the restaurant described the scene as chaotic. The man, dressed in shorts, approached DeRozan while recording with his phone’s flash on, disrupting the player’s meal. DeRozan knocked the phone out of the man’s hand, and tensions flared as the man demanded his device back. Video footage shows DeRozan pinning the man to the ground before stepping back, visibly frustrated. A woman in a gray sweatsuit can be heard urging DeRozan to “let him go,” while other patrons looked on in shock.
The altercation reportedly sent glass and cutlery flying off tables, adding to the commotion. The man involved sustained injuries and was transported from the scene in an ambulance. Police arrived at the restaurant around 10:30 PM and have since opened an investigation into the incident.
