DeMarcus Cousins Pushes Back On Haliburton Poll, Calls Gobert The True Most Overrated

Tyrese Haliburton has grown into a reliable floor general, a legitimate All-Star, and a franchise cornerstone, yet he still found himself voted the NBA’s most overrated player by fellow players in a recent poll. Ironically, the result dropped right before he posted 21 points and 12 assists in Game 2 win over the Milwaukee Bucks.

Also drawing attention in the poll was Rudy Gobert, who dropped from the top spot last year to second this time with 10 percent of the vote. His role in Minnesota’s defensive success is clear, but that hasn’t shifted how many around the league feel about his game. And while he wasn’t part of the poll, veteran big man DeMarcus Cousins didn’t hesitate to echo that sentiment publicly.

Specifically, Cousins wasn’t sold on Haliburton topping the poll and instead named Gobert as the more appropriate candidate, highlighting how the four-time Defensive Player of the Year hasn’t matched the expectations that come with that title.

“I disagree with Haliburton being the most overrated… It’s Rudy.” Cousins said. “You can’t be a 4x DPOY and get played off the floor.”
