Steve Kerr Rips Anthony Davis For Forcing His Trade
About six weeks ago, after months of going back and forth, the Los Angeles Lakers and New Orleans Pelicans agreed on a trade that sent Anthony Davis to Laker Land
After a trade had failed before this year’s trade deadline, both teams’ season got derailed in the aftermath. 4 months later, both front offices were finally happy with the other side’s offer.
But forcing his way out of his contract caused many fans and members of the media to criticize him. And now, Steve Kerr, who was never someone to mince words and has always voiced his opinion even on topics most people in the NBA stay away from, and went off on Davis on the Warriors Insider Podcast. Coach said that this marks a trend that could be terrible for the league, and he’s right.
“I’m talking more about the Anthony Davis situation. Where a guy is perfectly healthy and has a couple years left on his deal and says, ‘I want to leave.’ That’s a real problem that the league has to address and that the players have to be careful with.
When you sign on that dotted line, you owe your effort and your play to that team, to that city, to the fans. And then it’s completely your right to leave as a free agent. But if you sign the contract, then you should be bound to that contract.
If you come to an agreement with the team that, hey, it’s probably best for us to part ways, that’s one thing. But the Davis stuff was really kind of groundbreaking — and hopefully not a trend, because it’s bad for the league.”
