Andrew Wiggins: “You Always Want To Shut The People Up That Doubt You”
Andrew Wiggins has been one of the most pleasant surprises of the new season. Wiggins finally plays like the player he once was destined to be, and also has a newfound versatility with career-high numbers in rebounds, assists, blocks, 3-pointers and field goal percentage. The Timberwolves are above .500 and the former number one draft pick is a big reason why they’ve improved.
So far, Wiggins has been averaging 24.8 points, 5.4 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 1.2 blocks per game in the 2019-20 season. Wiggins has also heard the doubters in recent years and said that all the criticism and him being made fun of got to him at times. But these critics are also a reason of his stellar play as of late, due to him wanting to show them up.
Per Bleacher Report:
“You hear it, on social media, when you turn on the TV and watch sports, you always see certain stuff; certain people say certain things,” he said. He did his best to remain positive, to try tuning out the noise. “It never really got to me to the point where, you know, it messed up my lifestyle, my life,” he said. “I love myself more than anyone loves me.” But he does admit there have been times, especially last year, when all the criticism dragged him down.
“I’d go through a slump, and then you can’t help but hear it, and then you’re like, ‘F***,’” Wiggins said. You always want to shut the people up that doubt you.”
