The Return Of The Forgotten Superstar
John Wall hasn’t played a game of professional basketball since December 26, 2018, when the Wizards star suffered a ruptured Achilles. Wall was expected to be out for the entire 2019/20 season, in order to recover but with the NBA in hiatus for these past couple of months, and a targeted return date of July 31, things might look a little differently.
Even in the weeks before the global coronavirus pandemic, we got to see various clips of Wall dunking in pre-game warmups, jumping off and landing on his injured foot, while looking pretty healthy.
He was also already playing 1-on-1 against some of their assistant coaches again, and Wizards coach Scott Brooks even wouln’t completely rule out a return for John Wall this season, prior to the season suspension:
“It’s not like we’re shutting him down and focusing on the 2020/2021 season. It’s going to happen organically. He’s getting after every workout.”
In an interview with NBC Sports Washington, Washington Wizards owner Ted Leonsis now revealed that he is very excited about the return of Wall, and expects him to be in a much better place, and without pain for the first time in ages:
“I’m very much looking forward to John Wall’s return because I think physically he will be in a much different place. He has spoken about the pain that he had been in with his bone spurs. John once showed me a bone spur, one of the bone spurs that they took out of his heel. I will be sincere with you, I had never seen something like that. I couldn’t imagine what that felt like,” the Wizards boss explained.
“There are times where John has been isolated on social media where ‘look, he’s not playing defense, he’s not getting back.’ And then you would talk to John and he would say ‘I feel like there are razor blades in my feet when I’m running backwards. It’s gotten to the point where I can’t do it, I’m hurting the team now.’”
Whether it will be this season, if the NBA really does continue, and if the Wizards will be playing, or if it will be next season, John Wall, the NBA’s forgotten superstar is healthy again, and will be back soon.
