DeMar DeRozan Hung Up On Masai Ujiri When He Got The Call That He Was Being Traded & Sat In Front Of A Del Taco For 40 Minutes In Shock
In 2018, the Toronto Raptors traded DeMar DeRozan, Jakob Pöltl and a 2019 first round pick to the San Antonio Spurs in exchange for Kawhi Leonard and Danny Green.
Back then, DeMar got screwed badly. No Raptors player had ever embraced the city of Toronto like him, and no Raptors player had ever reached the stats he had reached. Back then, DeMar left town as the Raptors’ all-time leader in games played, minutes and points.
DeMar rightfully was extremely upset with the Raptors, claiming he was lied to after team officials promised him he would not be traded, before eventually sharing a classy goodbye message to the city and to the country of Canada.
Now, three years later, when being guest on Shannon Sharpe’s ‘Club Shay Shay’, DeRozan spoke about finding out about the trade, pulling over in his car and sitting 40 minutes in front of a Del Taco being in shock. He also revealed that he’s in peace with Toronto today, knowing that this simply is part of the business.
“I just couldn’t believe it. Cause two days prior, we have had a conversation about running this whole thing back. That’s what made it more surprising…”
“I talked to him [Masai Ujiri] and he told me, and I just hung up the phone.”
