Jayson Tatum Defends Pairing With Jaylen Brown: “We’ve Won Way More Games Together Than We’ve Lost”

The Boston Celtics are starting to find their rhythm after looking out of sync early in the season. They have climbed up in the standings, previously winning nine games in a row, and are now placed sixth in the tight Eastern Conference race.

Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown are leading the charge for the Celtics with a ton of buckets and high-energy on both ends. Tatum is putting up 25.7 points, 8.4 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game on 43.4% shooting, while Brown is tallying 23.7 points, 6.5 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game on 46% FG.

However, the pairing didn’t get through at this point of the season without criticism. Brown and Tatum have been both criticized for their lack of playmaking capabilities, with speculations suggesting that a break up may be an ideal scenario for the young Celtics duo.

Tatum is certainly well aware of the criticism, and in his appearance on The Old Man and the Three podcast, the 23-year old Celtics superstar defended his pairing with Brown and argued why they shouldn’t be split up.

I think it’s really picked up this year… If you think about it, we’ve had way more success together than this year and what we didn’t accomplish last year.

JB’s been in three Conference Finals, I’ve been in two… We’re both still very far from our prime. I think what people don’t understand is, if you want to break us up, the grass is not always greener.

There’s not a lot of guys in the NBA like JB… I couldn’t imagine why you wouldn’t want to have two of the best players that are under 25 on your team… We’ve won way more games together than we’ve lost.
