Tyronn Lue On Turning Down Lakers’ Head Coaching Job In 2019: “The Lakers [Saw It] More So As Like [I’m Just] Coming to Coach LeBron”
Tyronn Lue, who is currently coaching the Los Angeles Clippers, was in line for a head coaching job with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2019. Having a reputation as LeBron James’ coach in Cleveland, Lue seemed a guy who fits the bill.
However, a deal between Lue and the Lakers failed to complete as the former Cavaliers head coach decided to turn down a three-year deal worth $18 million, consequently walking away from the team completely. The Lakers moved on and signed Frank Vogel instead.
Lue now shared his true feelings on what transpired between him and the Lakers during their head coaching job hunt. According to the now-Clippers head coach, the Lakers saw the situation as if he was just coming to coach LeBron James.
Per ESPN:
“The Lakers [saw it] more so as like [I’m just] coming to coach LeBron,” Lue said. “No, I’m coming to win. I just didn’t think I was treated fairly. And I wasn’t just going to accept any offer just to get a job. “I just thought I was better than that.”
