Jason Kidd Thinks Luka Doncic’s Level Of Play Is Not Sustainable For 82 Games: “Usage Is Just Way Too High”

Luka Doncic is playing at an MVP level in his fifth NBA season. This year, Doncic is averaging a career-high in points per game with 33.4 points to go along with 8.5 rebounds and 8.5 assists per game on 51.0% shooting from the field. 

Doncic has spent his career carrying the Dallas Mavericks on his shoulders. This season isn’t any different. Doncic’s next scoring option is Christian Wood who averages 16.9 points a game, so the Mavs basically have to hope that Doncic can stay healthy while going supernova to carry the team.

Given Doncic’s heavy load for the Mavericks, head coach Jason Kidd is concerned that his level of play may not last long for the rest of the season. The 49-year old coach also mentioned that they should find a way to get Doncic some help.

Per Yahoo Sports:

“For 82 games, it’s no way that he can play at this level, the usage is just way too high,” Kidd told Yahoo Sports last week. “No one can. You know, the things that we ask him to do on the offensive end and then asked him to defend on the other end. It’s a lot.”

“We got to get them help and we got to look to see how we can do that,” Kidd told Yahoo Sports. “His minutes are extremely high. You try to hold him [on the bench] but a lot of times you gotta bring him back early just to get back in the game.”
