It’s unfamiliar territory for the Golden State Warriors, a team that not long ago was synonymous with success. With Stephen Curry still performing at a high level, the Warriors must decide whether they can bring it all together one more time or if their window has closed.
Coming off a non-playoff appearance, the Warriors are now staring down a future without Klay Thompson. However, with the additions of Buddy Hield, De’Anthony Melton, and Kyle Anderson, they’re hoping to stabilize the lineup and get back to their winning ways.
These moves are a good start to fill Thompson’s void. But as it stands, this roster doesn’t quite project as a championship contender, especially when other teams have upgraded significantly for a win-now approach. And by all accounts, Curry knows it better than anyone.
Curry has been positive about the Warriors’ latest additions, suggesting that they could be vital pieces for a championship run. But reading between the lines, it doesn’t sound like he’s sold on this squad being title contenders just yet.
“All three guys that we brought in, all are veterans,” Curry said of De’Anthony Melton, Buddy Hield, and Kyle Anderson. “… Established veterans that know how to play the game and are good pieces that you need to be a championship-type team. Does that mean we’re there? I don’t know… We’re in the position where we can be a relevant team early.”
