ESPN has recently released its Top 100 players list for the 2024-25 NBA season, and clocking in at No. 11 is San Antonio Spurs young star Victor Wembanyama.
The Spurs selected Wembanyama with the No. 1 overall pick last season, and he’s proven to be everything San Antonio hoped for—promising, dominant, and unlike any other player we’ve ever seen. He turned heads all year, and it’s only going to get crazier next season.
Many believe the 20-year-old Wembanyama is poised to make a massive leap, and the ranking suggests as much. Still, NBA Hall of Famer Shaquille O’Neal isn’t quite on board, suggesting that the Spurs star should be sitting at No.31 instead.
“You’re good but not good enough… When your team doesn’t make the playoffs, when you’re that guy, and all the pressure’s on you, [it] don’t matter who you got with you, you have to win.”
Shaq ranked Victor Wembanyama at No. 31 in his Top 50 NBA player rankings:

O’Neal is known for holding big men to a different level of scrutiny, and it’s no surprise that Wembanyama’s ranking at No. 11 on ESPN’s list caught his attention. If O’Neal doesn’t think you’re living up to his expectations, he’ll let you know, and Wembanyama is no exception.
