Sacramento Kings point guard De’Aaron Fox had an unfiltered reaction to the team’s new part-time mascot, Roy Al. The mascot, introduced alongside the Kings’ new City Edition jerseys, is a nod to the team’s history as the Cincinnati Royals.

After shootaround ahead of the Kings’ game against the Timberwolves, Fox was shown a picture of Roy Al for the first time by a reporter. His reaction was priceless:

“What the f–k is that?” Fox exclaimed, much to the amusement of everyone in the room. He went on to add that Roy Al “looks like he’d work at a fast-food restaurant”.

The new mascot, with its unique and somewhat quirky appearance, is designed to pay homage to the Royals’ logo, which featured a floating basketball head with a crown.

Then, in the actual game, which turned out to be a thrilling NBA Cup game, Fox delivered a spectacular performance, scoring a career-high 60 points in the 130-126 overtime loss.

Fox’s 60-point game is the first 60+-point game by any player in the 2024-25 NBA season and a new franchise record for the Kings, surpassing Jack Twyman’s 59 points in 1960 and DeMarcus Cousins’ 56-point performance in 2016. He shot an impressive 22 of 35 from the field, made 6 of 10 from beyond the arc, and was 10 of 11 from the free-throw line.

The game was a back-and-forth battle, with the Timberwolves leading by as many as 20 points in the third quarter. However, Fox led a remarkable 14-0 run to start the fourth quarter, bringing the Kings back into contention. Despite his incredible scoring outburst, the Kings fell short in overtime, with Anthony Edwards’ late-game heroics sealing the victory for the Timberwolves.
