Should The Warriors Take A Risk On Zion Williamson? NBA Analyst Sees Pelicans Star On Warriors’ Radar

After acquiring Dennis Schroder from the Brooklyn Nets, the Golden State Warriors make it clear that they’re far from finished. The team is reportedly still on the hunt, and this time, they want a star.

It’s clear the Warriors have been missing a reliable second star for quite some time. Draymond Green and Andrew Wiggins don’t have the juice to be that guy anymore. Jonathan Kuminga is still figuring out his game, and Brandin Podziemski looks nothing more than a rotation player right now.

As the Warriors continue their search, one team to watch is the New Orleans Pelicans. With the belief that they’re set to sell off parts of their roster, ESPN’s Bobby Marks has floated the idea of Golden State targeting former No. 1 overall pick Zion Williamson.

“Now, Zion is interesting here just because he is injured right now [and] we don’t know when he is coming back,” Marks said. “For him to be on the court, that’s how you can get the most value for him, either in a trade or with the Pelicans. I’ve always circled Golden State, [who] would be certainly that team there for for Zion.”

Williamson is the definition of a high-risk, high-reward player. He brings All-Star production, but his injury history makes him a gamble. The Warriors have to decide if the gamble is worth giving up serious pieces to get him, especially if they’re going to move assets like Wiggins and Kuminga.

Williamson is certainly a tempting option for the Warriors, but there’s no shortage of star players on the market, including Brandon Ingram, Zach LaVine and Jimmy Butler. It will be fascinating to see if they can land one of them or leave the market empty-handed.
