Los Angeles Lakers head coach JJ Redick lost his home in the recent wildfires that have been ravaging the Los Angeles area. The Palisades Fire, which has burned more than 17,000 acres and destroyed over 10,000 structures, forced Redick and his family to evacuate their home on Tuesday.
Redick expressed his concern and support for the community during this challenging time.
“I just want to acknowledge and send thoughts and prayers to everyone in Palisades right now. That’s where I live,” Redick said ahead of the Lakers’ game against the Dallas Mavericks. He added, “Our family, my wife’s family, my wife’s twin sister, they’ve evacuated. I know a lot of people are freaking out right now, including my family. From the sound of things, with the winds coming, I know a lot of people are scared. So I just want to acknowledge that. Thoughts and prayers for sure, and hope everybody stays safe.”

The Palisades Fire has caused widespread destruction, with more than 10,000 buildings burned and at least ten people dead across three wildfires in Los Angeles County. The NBA community has been deeply affected, with players and coaches like Redick and Los Angeles Clippers star Kawhi Leonard stepping away from their teams to ensure the safety of their families.
Leonard, who also resides in the Pacific Palisades area, had more luck. His home survived the fires, though he had to temporarily evacuate with his family.

Leonard received full support from his team and head coach Tyronn Lue during this period of uncertainty.
“We’re just glad that Kawhi and his family are safe,” Lue said. “Homes can be rebuilt, but lives are irreplaceable.”
The fires have left a lasting impact on the Los Angeles community, and the NBA family has rallied together to support those affected. The league has postponed the Lakers’ home game against the Charlotte Hornets to focus on the safety and well-being of those impacted by the fires.
