Stephen Jackson On What Makes The San Antonio Spurs Special
Former NBA player Stephen ‘Captain Jack’ Jackson was guest on the ‘Rich Eisen Show’. Jackson, who won an NBA champioship with the San Antonio Spurs in 2003, was asked why the Spurs are such a special franchise. He responded:
“Well two things for me that I noticed: He [Gregg Popovich] made me understand that the NBA is a profession, is a job, it’s not a game no more. So I had to come to the gym everyday, with the notion that I’m here for work. I’m coming in to get better, and make everyone around me better, it’s not solely about me. Second, the preparation. I’ve been on a lot of teams in the NBA, and no team prepares like Pop.”
Jackson went on to say that Kawhi Leonard is such a great defender because of Pop, and that if you don’t follow Pop’s rules and scouting reports, he’s taking you out.
