Gilbert Arenas Reveals What LeBron Told Him Before Missing Two Crucial Free Throws In 2006 Playoffs
In the Eastern Conference’s first playoff round in 2006, the Cleveland Cavaliers beat the Washington Wizards in six games. The 6th game was one of the craziest games in recent playoff history with both teams going back and forth.
With 15 seconds to go, the Wizards were up by one point and Gilbert Arenas was on the line to shoot two. After missing the first, LeBron James walked up to him and told him something. Arenas missed the second free throw as well, and Damon Jones won it for the Cavs on the other end.
Arenas now revealed what James told him that night:
“LeBron said, ‘if you miss these, you know who will end the game…’ It was a running joke about Damon Jones. I kept calling him sweet and forced the Cavs to bench him in Game 5, because anytime he was on the floor, I went iso. So he was benched the whole game. So LeBron was saying if I missed I know who will finish the game, so they subbed Damon Jones in. LeBron fakes like he was driving left , so I stepped up and he passed the ball to the corner to Damon Jones, and FU**ING DAMON JONES hit the shot like that f*cker said.”
