LeBron James, Other NBA Teams/Players Plan on Not Staying At NYC Trump Hotel
Cleveland Cavaliers superstar LeBron James has never backed down from something he believes in. The three-time NBA champion has attended numerous political rallies over the years, including a Hillary Clinton Presidential rally this past November.
James, a Clinton supporter, is among a number of Cleveland Cavaliers players who have spoken out about staying at Trump SoHo Hotel in Lower Manhattan, New York City this week. The Cavaliers visit the New York Knicks Wednesday night, and the Trump-owned hotel was the one the team was going to stay in. James’ Cavaliers teammates Iman Shumpert, Richard Jefferson and J.R. Smith have also voiced criticism of Trump. Shumpert will stay at the Trump SoHo, however, it’s unclear whether Jefferson and Smith will stay elsewhere.
It was reported by ESPN.com last month that at least three NBA teams would stop using Trump hotels after President-elect Donald Trump defeated Hillary Clinton.
In a recent interview with the New York Daily News, New York Knicks center Joakim Noah, spoke about staying at hotels affiliated with President-elect Trump. Noah said, “nah, probably not,” when asked if he would stay at Trump hotels. “I think it’s just a comfort level, you know. Stick to your principles. Whoever you are,” he continued. “Trump is our president. But that doesn’t mean we have to stay at his hotel.”
Whether or not NBA players and teams stay out of Trump affiliated hotels, they can not change the result of the election. The most they could do is support President-elect Trump and hope he does well for this great nation.
